The Working Holiday Maker (WHM) program has seen important updates effective 1 July 2026. These changes affect both the Subclass 417 (Working Holiday) and Subclass 462 (Work and Holiday) visas.
Age Requirement at Lodgement
A crucial technical amendment requires applicants to meet the age criteria at the time of lodging a valid visa application. Previously, age was assessed at the time of visa grant. This change means ineligible applicants can no longer lodge a valid application, preventing the payment of a Visa Application Charge that would ultimately result in a refusal.
Increased Age Limit for Select Countries
The maximum age for Subclass 417 applicants has been increased from 30 to 35 years for passport holders from the following countries:
- Cyprus
- Finland
- Germany
- Republic of Korea (South Korea)
| Country | Previous Age Limit | New Age Limit (From 1 July 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Cyprus | 30 | 35 |
| Finland | 30 | 35 |
| Germany | 30 | 35 |
| South Korea | 30 | 35 |
Candidates approaching their age limit should act promptly to secure their eligibility.
